IMPROVE EFFICIENCY, MANAGE, AND CONTROL YOUR COMPANY’S PRODUCTION IN TOTAL SAFETY
Industry 4.0 production processes are automated and connected online: this increases plant productivity and improves product quality, but it also introduces additional security risks.
What Is A SCADA System
SCADA (Supervisory Control And Data Acquisition) systems use a series of sensors connected to the production system to acquire data, which is then processed and remotely displayed for centralized management of the plant. This enables complete monitoring of the production process, regulation of connected equipment activity, and detection of potential anomalies.
The interconnection of SCADA systems presents a significant opportunity for many industrial applications but also poses substantial security risks.
SCADA systems were not originally designed for network connectivity, lacking the necessary security and authentication protocols, which means that internet access exposes them to all possible online threats. Additionally, the use of universally accessible communication protocols—chosen because they are cost-effective—allows malicious actors to identify weak points to exploit in an attack. Over time, interconnected infrastructures have become increasingly complex and critical to plant operations.
Unfortunately, the risks of an attack on industrial systems are real and present serious threats, given the sensitivity of the processes they manage and the impact that damage to an industrial plant could entail.
COMPLETE CONTROL WITH GSSC
GlobsitSmartSCADAController (GSSC) is a highly customizable, secure-by-design SCADA management and monitoring system. It is designed to integrate seamlessly with any industrial environment while ensuring the security of all communications.
ADVANCED HARDWARE
The core hardware of GSSC features an advanced multi-core SoC with 8GB of RAM, capable of processing digital and analog signals. Both programming and the operating system are contained on a removable microSD card, making maintenance operations easier.
NETWORK DEVICES
The smart processing system is supported by a mixed network apparatus that includes SFP (fiber optic) connections, Ethernet (copper) connections, and Wireless connections (2G, 3G, and 4G). The network apparatus also allows load balancing and gateway monitoring, signaling any issues to the processing core.
FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION
The modular engineering of the GSSC system allows for choosing the optimal sensor for each case, tailoring the smart solution to the specific characteristics of the monitored environment. Low-level alert programming also allows for customization to meet the client’s needs, expanding the types, numbers, and combinations of measurements required to generate an alert. All devices can operate independently of the environment, thanks to a backup battery and a dedicated gateway.
INSTALLED SENSORS
The GSS system is equipped with the following sensors for data acquisition:
– Contact sensor – AC/DC analog probe – Non-invasive specific inductance AC/DC sensor – Volumetric and magnetic sensors – Analog output reading – Digital output reading – System interrogation via RS232 / RS485 (dependent on system specifications) – MODBUS system interrogation – Microphones for ambient sound level detection with DB threshold
CUSTOMIZED MONITORING
Thanks to a wide variety of sensors, GSS can be programmed to monitor according to preset thresholds:
– Physical intrusions via volumetric and magnetic sensors – Anomalies in ambient sound levels – Status of switches and interface devices – Production machine status – Command transmission to production machines – Security device status – Gateway status – Production details – Status of installed UPS systems – Precise temperatures of specific components – Weather station data analysis
Standard Configuration
The standard configuration of GSS provides real-time monitoring of 20 sensors and four serial ports simultaneously. The number of sensors and serial ports can be expanded with additional hardware.
